Toddlers are enthralled by live nativity scenes. The pint sized barn or lean-to seems to pull in even the most reluctant of children. After a few minutes to acclimate, many toddlers are right up against the fence looking at and sometimes even petting the sheep, goats, and donkeys that walk around near the Christ child. Some live nativity scenes will allow you to feed the animals treats of carrots or sugar cubes but please read the signs or ask an attendant before feeding any animals; no one likes to be bitten or make an animal sick.
Not only is this a fun animal encounter, but it also is an excellent time to tell your toddler an age appropriate version of Christ’s birth.
