Construction paper shapes are inexpensive and easy to make even if you don’t have access to a die-cut machine. Just take a few sheets of construction paper (or card stock if you prefer) and cut away. Quickly you will notice that you have quite a pile of triangles, rectangles, squares, and other interesting shapes. Put said “confetti” in a large bowl or tub and let your toddler scoop, sort, and squish away. As with all of our “tub of” activities, I also give little one spoons, cups, and a small bowl or two to use. After some initial discovery time, feel free to take this activity a step deeper and discuss the various shapes and colors in the tub but make sure that toddler is leading the way.
